Hunger That Isn’t Hunger

Definition of “Marionette”: a puppet in the shape of a person worked from above by strings attached to its limbs.

Binge eating is not a choice, it’s a trauma response.

This person is absolutely a marionette being controlled from above by a disease springing from trauma, the only way (though highly twisted) to protect herself from the pains of the past. She is not eating because she’s hungry. She’s padding her body and her spirit in a debilitated attempt to preserve her walled-up persona in case she feels exposed or vulnerable, especially to sexual assault or body shaming. It’s also a form of self-harm; self-punishment stemming from thoughts of worthlessness.
